USA has renewed Royal Pains, White Collar and Covert Affairs.
A day into the broadcast networks’ Premiere Week, the NBCUniversal-owned cable network pulled the trigger on bringing back three staples of its summer lineup.
Royal Pains will return for two additional runs of 13 episodes each, getting a 26-episode order for seasons five and six. The move comes as the cabler is prepping a two-hour Royal Pains TV movie, Off-Season Greetings, revolving around the upcoming nuptials between Evan (Paulo Costanzo) and Paige (Brooke D’Orsay) slated to air Dec. 16.
White Collar and Covert Affairs, meanwhile, will return for their respective fifth and fourth seasons, consisting of 15 episodes each.
All three series rank among the summer’s top 10 scripted entries among cable networks in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic and come as USA completed its seventh consecutive summer as cable’s No. 1 network across all key demographics.
“All three of these series have found ways to stay creatively fresh and culturally relevant” USA co-presidents Jeff Wachtel and Chris McCumber said in a statement announcing the news Tuesday. “The execution in writing, acting and production is among the best on television. In an increasingly competitive landscape, these series got new-season pickups the old-fashioned way — they earned it!”
The fate of Common Law, Fairly Legal, Necessary Roughness and limited series Political Animals has yet to be determined. Decisions are expected soon.
